Types of Tourist Visas:

B-2 Visa

The most common travel visa assigned to visitors to the United States is the B-2 visa. This type of visa is issued to a person coming to the United States for travel, recreation, conferences, medical treatment, to visit potential schools or universities, or to visit friends / family.

Those applying for a B-2 visa are required to complete and submit the following:

• Visa application
• Two recent passport-sized photos
• Passport that is for at least six months from the expected time of travel
• Other documents may be required

Most people seeking a tourist visa from abroad must apply through the Consulate or American Embassy of their respective country. Applicants are required to have an interview with immigration officials from these offices. A B-2 visa can be issued for up to six months.

B-1 Visa

The B-1 visa is a type of business visa that allows an individual to come to the United States temporarily to engage in business activities that can include:

• Conventions
• Trade shows
• Business meetings
• Meeting with clients

A B-1 visa can be issued for up to six months. The person applying must be able to prove that the purpose of visiting the United States is for business. He or she must also prove that the trip is temporary and that strong ties to the home country exist.
